Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day is celebrated annually, on the 3rd Wednesday of November across the globe to bring together practitioners, businesses and policy makers to demonstrate real world applications that are making a difference in our society. In Ghana, the day has been celebrated in the past by individual organizations and institutions, which see GIS as part of their daily business. Since 2010, the Department of Geography and Resource Development, University of Ghana, has seen the need to act as an umbrella to bring all interested parties across the country together to celebrate GIS day. The aim is to sensitize all stakeholders on the need for the country and businesses to think holistically in developing the geospatial infrastructure in the country, after all about 85% of all Governmental daily businesses are geospatially related. Indeed last year’s GIS Day was extremely successful. We attracted over 500 participants from different parts of the country, including people from the security services, academia, MDAs and MMDAs, private companies and non-governmental organizations. We bring together practitioners, businesses and policy makers to demonstrate real world applications that are making a difference in our society.
This Year Celebration would be on November 16, 2016 at University of Ghana
